5 Tips for Fashion Colors

With summer around the corner, clients will undoubtedly be looking to trade in their winter locks for vibrant summer hues. While they focus on getting the perfect shade, it’s important to communicate the cost and commitment that they will be signing up for.

1. Multiple Appointments

Fashion colors tend to verge on the lighter end, and darker haired clients need to know that multiple processes are often required to get them to the hair color they want. Once they are aware of this, there’s always room to negotiate. Are they hoping for pastel pink? Offer to start them at a dark pink and slowly make them lighter.

2. It takes time (Up to 8 Hours)

Depending on the state of their current hair, previous color may need to be extracted, recolored, cut, and dried. Each process can take up to 2 hours.

3. Cost

Due to the product and time involved, fashion colors aren’t cheap. Many clients are unprepared to deal with the expense, and it’s important that they are made aware as soon as possible. If the cost is too much, let them know that it can be broken out over multiple appointments.

4. It won’t last long

All good things must come to an end, and fashion colors last 4-8 weeks at best. Instead of changing the hair’s pigment, fashion colors stain the cuticle and fade quickly.  Encourage proper after care and the use of products that won’t strip the color.

5. Consistency is Key

If your client decides to book multiple appointments, encourage them to book as close together as possible. This will ensure best results and will protect their color from damage. When recommending after care, let them know about the real cost of using store bought product vs. a professional label.
